Terms of Service

Effective 31 May 2026 · Last updated 31 May 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Vocalize, including the browser extension and companion web service (together, the "Service"). By installing, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Vocalize reads web pages, PDFs, and EPUB documents aloud using text-to-speech and can generate optional AI summaries of that content. We may add, change, or remove features over time.

2. Accounts

Some features require an account. You are responsible for the accuracy of your account information and for keeping your credentials secure. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

3. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

  • Paid plans are billed in advance on a recurring basis (monthly or yearly) through our payment processor, Stripe, at the price shown at checkout.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date.
  • Cancellation. You may cancel at any time from your account's billing settings. Cancellation stops future charges; you retain access until the end of the current paid period.
  • Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods.
  • We may change prices on a prospective basis; changes will not affect the period you have already paid for, and we will give reasonable notice of any increase.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service with content you do not have the right to access or process, or in violation of any third party's rights or any applicable law;
  • attempt to resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the synthesized audio or summaries except as permitted by the voice and content providers;
  • reverse engineer, interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, or circumvent usage limits or access controls;
  • use the Service to create unlawful, harmful, or infringing content.

5. Third-party content and websites

The Service operates on content from websites and documents that you choose. We are not responsible for that third-party content or for the websites you visit, and your use of such content is subject to those third parties' own terms. The Service also relies on third-party providers (e.g., cloud speech, AI, and payment services) whose availability we do not guarantee.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Vocalize and its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your personal or internal business use, subject to these Terms. You retain rights to the content you supply.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that audio or summaries will be accurate or complete.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vocalize will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect the Service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (e.g., payment obligations, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) will survive.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, through in-product notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Privacy

Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
